THE POTTER'S HOUSE

Jeremiah 18:2 Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
The potter is one who works with clay and mould vessels according to the imaginations of his heart and one major thing that you see in the potter’s house is the “crushing of clay”. By crushing of the clay, the potter is able to mould the clay into any vessel of his choice.
Without crushing, the potter cannot make any significant thing with the clay. Having the clay is not enough; the clay must be crushed in order to produce a fine vessel. The potter’s house is a picture of the cross. At the cross, Jesus was crushed for our iniquities.
Isaiah 53:5 says, “He was wounded for our rebellious acts. HE WAS CRUSHED FOR OUR SINS. He was punished so that we could have peace, and we received healing from his wounds.” GW
If you look at the kind of crushing the clay goes through before a good vessel is formed, you will see how much Jesus really suffered for your sins. He was really crushed on every side; and He truly felt the pains of that beating – do not take these things for granted. You need to ponder over it soberly and esteem how great price the Son of God had to pay for your salvation.
He has been able to bring many sons unto glory through His crushing, . The crushing and beating that we were supposed to receive from God for our sins have been meted out to Jesus at the cross and today even though you sin, there is no curse, and there is no condemnation. The cross is our only means of deliverance from God’s punishment and wrath for our sins.
Our opening scripture says, at the potter’s house I will cause you to hear my words. The cross, which is the potter’s house, and place of crushing, is where you will hear the voice of God. God is speaking through the cross to us today. Listen to the voice of the cross which speaks of God’s unconditional love and grace and acceptance.
