THE HOUSE OF PRAYER

Mark 11:17 And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.
Our opening scripture is an Old testament scripture that Jesus quoted. And it reveals God’s plan for His church. We are God’s house and living tabernacles, made to contain the presence and power of God.
One time Jesus went into the temple only to discover that they have turned it into a place of merchandise. These folks have transmuted the purpose of the temple. Then came Jesus and whipped all the people and drove them out. Then he declared, My house shall be called the house of prayer.
I am wondering why the scriptures did not say, “house of the word” but “house of prayer”. It tells you the place of prayer in the scheme of God. God takes great delight in prayer. He wants His house to be a place of prayer. A prayerless church is a dead church. It is dangerous to be in a church where they don’t pray or believe in prayer. These are the hubs of the devil, where he freely operates without being hindered.
You must of necessity live a prayerful life. The world in which we live is a very dangerous world. According to scripture, the whole world lies in wickedness. You cannot afford the luxury of a prayerless life – the cost is too much. To stand against satanic onslaught against you and your family and loved ones, it is going to take fervent prayer – certainly, not doodling and dawdling prayer.
Prayer births fellowship. Praying time is a time to fellowship with God. The more you pray, the deeper your communion with God increases. A man of prayer is a man who has a strong relationship with God.
Much more than the church as a corporate body, you are the house of God. Thus you are supposed to be a “house of prayer”. Are you a praying person? Is prayer one of the top issues on your list of preference? God wants your life to be afire. Make your life a praying one. You are the house of prayer. Where there is no fire on the altar of your life, you have all kinds of satanic intrusion. Let your life be a fireplace where it is burning, to ward off all satanic works.
