DON'T GET PETTY WITH THE GOSPEL

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
It is sad to see how we get petty with the glorious gospel of Christ. When you hear what some people preach and they dare call it gospel, you begin to wonder in amazement. When people preach against sin, they call it gospel. The question you need to ask yourself is that, can that kind of preaching save the sinner? If it can’t, then it is not the gospel.
One time I heard one preacher say that ladies who put on weavon are sinning against God. Where is that written in the word of God? This fellow went on to condemn ladies wearing trousers and make up – he said all these things are sins against God. I believe this is no longer preaching of God’s word but ignorance gone to sea. The problem with this kind of people is sin consciousness.
Others preach, if you wear mini skirt you will not go to heaven. If you wear trousers you will not go to heaven. If you smoke and drink you will not go to heaven. I am not advocating for these lifestyles. But what I am trying to share with you is how people get petty with the glorious gospel of Christ.
There are more goodies in the word than all these trivial things that has no place in scripture. The gospel of Christ is not about do’s and don’ts. It is what Jesus came to do for man in His death and resurrection. It is the news of what He has done and not what you have done. The emphasis of the gospel is Christ and not man’s works to appease a holy God.
When you preach the gospel, have in mind that the emphasis is not man but Jesus. If Jesus and what He did in His redemptive work is not the emphasis of your message, then you are not preaching the gospel. It is only the gospel that has power to save men’s lives. This is why I put every ounce of my energy to make all men see the fellowship of the mystery and the riches of His grace. Don’t get petty with the gospel. Place the gospel where it supposed to be.
