FAT NECK - THE YOKE SHALL BE BROKEN

Isaiah 10:27 And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

Our opening scripture is a beautiful one that shows how you can break every yoke of the enemy. And it is better rendered in newer translations. The Amplified translation puts it this way: So it will be in that day, that the burden of the Assyrian will be removed from your shoulders and his yoke from your neck. The yoke will be broken because of the fat (ISAIAH 10:27 AMP)

In Bible days animals, mostly oxen, were used to plow and do agricultural work. These animals were yoked with the instrument of work or the plow as the case may be. So the animal moves, the instrument is able to plow. These animals were yoked on the neck. Now if the animal grows so fat or large, the yoke will not be able to fit again. Thus, you cannot yoke such animals again.

This is what our opening scripture is saying. When you have grown so fat, you cannot be yoked again. Yoke is a picture of the oppressions and burdens of the enemy like sickness, emotional problems, psychological problems, financial problems, unforgiveness, bitterness, marital problems, bad habits etc.

A believer in Christ may be struggling with these kinds of things. But a time comes when you have outgrown these things, they will no longer be able to fit into your neck anymore – at this time scripture says, you have grown fat and for that reason the yoke shall be broken. The NET translation makes the opening scripture much clearer: At that time the Lord will remove their burden from your shoulders, and their yoke from your neck; the yoke will be taken off because your neck will be too large (Isaiah 10:27).

So the key to breaking the yokes of the enemy is not by human exertions and will power. The key is in spiritual growth. For instance, when I see the kind of Math problems my kids struggle with, I wonder in amazement; these problems are no match for me because I have gone beyond that level. It is the same spiritually.

This is one reason why you have to take your spiritual development very seriously. If you don’t grow, the enemy will continue to yoke you with his oppressions and burdens – you will still struggle with those challenges for years – yeah that’s the way it is. So, give attention to spiritual activities like study of God’s word, prayer and fasting, attending church regularly, reading anointed books and listening to anointed preaching, which helps you to grow spiritually. And when you have grown so fat, you don’t need to pray for the yoke to break; it will break by itself – it will just not fit your neck anymore. Hallelujah!
