BE DRUNK WITH THE SPIRIT

Ephesians 5:18-19 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
This is an instruction from the Spirit of God. He is instructing us to be filled with Him. That means this is something that we can actually participate in. He tells us what not to be filled with – do not be drunk with wine wherein is excess. Then He tells us to be filled with the Spirit – what it means is to be drunk with the Spirit.
The Message translation says, “Don’t drink too much wine. That cheapens your life. Drink the Spirit of God, huge draughts of him” (Ephesians 5:18).
You can be filled with the Spirit. And to be filled with the Spirit is not a one time experience; it is an everyday experience that any child of God can have.
When you are full of the Holy Ghost, you will do Holy Ghost things; you will be controlled by the Spirit. A man that is drunk with alcohol will be controlled by alcohol. All his actions comes under the control of the alcohol. God wants our lives to be controlled by the Spirit. And the key is to be drunk with the Spirit.
When you are full of the Spirit, your life will be inspired by the Spirit; the right thoughts will come to you; you will be bold; you will be filled with ideas of the Spirit; you will come under the influence of the Spirit; there will be no fears in your life; you will become much aware of the Spirit; you will be more sensitive to the Spirit.
One key to be filled with the Spirit is prayer; especially praying in other tongues. Acts 4:31 says, “And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.”
When the early church prayed, not only was the place of gathering shaken, but they were also filled and drunk with the Holy Ghost. Live a consistent prayer life. Pray often. Speak in tongues more. Learn to sing praises to the Lord. Get into deep praise and worship. Let your life be continually filled with the Spirit and you will live an unending life of the supernatural and the miraculous.
