Genesis 20:2 And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.
When God called Abraham and asked him to leave his father’s house to a land He will show him, Abraham wandered from place to place. Then he came to Abimelech in Gerar. When he was asked of his wife Sarah, he said, she is my sister. For that reason, she lost Sarah to Abimelech for some time.
God intervened and finally Sarah was restored to Abraham. What Abraham did to Sarah is what many are doing today to the grace gospel. Sarah is a picture of grace while Abraham is a picture of faith. Some believers in Christ will say, “yeah grace is good; we are saved by grace; but grace is not enough; you have to add works to grace; don’t be too radical with grace; don’t take this grace thing to the extreme.” These are the people who are saying, grace is my sister and not my wife.
These assertions given above may sound logical but it is all nonsense as far as scripture is concerned. My question to you is that, what is the difference between your sister and your wife? The answer is intimacy. You can never be intimate with your sister. There is a level of relationship you can have with your sister – it just ends somewhere.
But when it comes to your wife, there are no boundaries – you can go to the extreme. You can do anything with your wife. You can experience the highest form of intimacy with your wife; but you can’t do the same with your sister. When you say don’t get extreme with grace, all you are saying is that grace is your sister. But the moment you receive grace in its maximum, grace becomes your wife – there is intimacy. And this is what changes a man’s life forever. Get intimate with grace.
Grace plus any amount of works equals zero. Salvation is purely by grace through faith. Our works are a result of the grace that we have received; but we are not saved by good works; we are saved unto good works. Saved people do good works. Receive grace, God’s unmerited favour, in its totality.
