PRAYER: A DIVINE STRATEGY OF THE SPIRIT TO AVOID DANGER

Luke 22:40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.

The above scripture has to do with the time just before Jesus was arrested and crucified. Jesus took His disciples to the garden of Gethsemane to pray. There He warned them that they should pray so that they can avoid temptation.

Unfortunately, they did not heed to Jesus’ instruction – Jesus’ prayer partners slept very deeply. When the hour of temptation struck, all of them deserted Jesus and fled for their lives. On three separate occasions, the man (Peter) who promised that he was ready to die with Jesus was found denying Him vehemently.

There are temptations that can be averted. I believe that about 90% of the temptations that we go through can be averted if we know what to do.

And one of the keys to avoid temptations as given to us by Jesus is prayer – prayer can avert many temptations. If we will commit ourselves to a consistent life of prayer, we will avert many evils in this world. While you pray, especially speak in tongues often, you settle so many things in the realm of the spirit. Before satan tries to hatch his eggs, you have aborted them through prayer.

Sadly, what many believers in Christ do is to wait till trouble strikes before they start praying. That is not wisdom – that is behaving like the fire service – we have to prevent the fire instead of trying to put out fires. You must be on the offensive – we are the ones to put the devil on the run – giving him no breathing space.

I counsel you in the name of Jesus Christ to take the words of Jesus in the opening scripture seriously. Commit yourself to daily prayer – make prayer your habit. And pray more in tongues. The more you do this you will demolish the arrows that flies by day, and the pestilence that walks in darkness, and the destruction that wastes at noon day. Hallelujah!
