Excelling in the giving grace is an instruction from the Spirit of God. Thus any attempt to excel in the grace of giving is an obedience to God. On the other hand, not excelling in the grace of giving is disobedience to God.

From the foregoing, it is very clear that God wants us to excel and abound in generosity and the giving grace. The Corinthian church were good at so many things of the Spirit but in giving – they lacked the giving grace.

Apostle Paul had to use the giving attitude of the Macedonian church to encourage the Corinthian church to become a generous church. That’s very inspiring and remarkable! If someone is looking for a character and reference to inspire people into giving, will your name ever come to mind?

The stories of those who excelled in giving have been well documented in scripture for us all to see. Abel offered a more excellent sacrifice when he brought his firstlings to God. Abraham offered his only son as a sacrifice. David gave so much for the building of temple of Solomon.

There are a lot of believers in Christ who excel in nearly everything but giving. Many do not have problem with prayer, evangelism, fasting, teaching and manifesting the gifts of the Spirit. But the moment it comes to giving of financial and material things, they begin to struggle.

Of all graces in the scriptures, it was the grace of giving Apostle Paul instructed the Corinthian church to excel in. This tells you that man is naturally a selfish being – doesn’t give easily.

We must teach the subject of giving as given to us by scripture backed by the power of the Spirit. Until people understand the subject of giving, they will never give – they will struggle to give. Giving must be modeled and taught before the people. This will empower them to give.

The Pastor in consultation with the Holy Spirit must create opportunities for the people to exercise their faith in the area of giving. God is a generous God. You have His nature. Express that generous nature of your heavenly Father. Generosity is a wonderful virtue. Cultivate it today!
