1 Corinthians 12:8‭-‬10 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

Sometimes ministers ask the congregation, which of the gifts of the Spirit do you desire? Some folks will say, I want the gift of prophecy; others the gift of word of knowledge; while others the gift of working of miracles or healing.

I don’t know about you, but I want all that God gives. If there is anything that God gives, I want all of it. I want the gift of prophecy, gift of tongues and interpretation of tongues, word of knowledge, word of wisdom, discerning of spirits, gift of faith, gifts of healing, and working of miracles.

Scripture admonishes us to desire spiritual gifts. The gifts of the Spirit did not pass with the apostles as some people in the church wants us to believe – that’s a big lie from the pit of hell. If you take the gifts of the Spirit from the church, the church will not be different from any religion of the world – the church will be as dead as the cemetery.

Any teaching that attacks spiritual gifts is a dangerous teaching that must be opposed with all vehemency. Believe that the gifts of the Spirit are for you. Jesus died to give you the gifts of the Spirit. The word “gifts” for “spiritual gifts”, is from the Greek word “charsima” which means the gift of God working by grace. The gifts of the Spirit are grace gifts.

Thus, you don’t need to qualify for them. The qualification is desire. If you desire it God will give it to you. 1 Corinthians 14:1 says, “Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.” And these gifts are not only reserved for the preachers; it is for all believers in Christ. If you want to take the mundanity out of your life, desire spiritual gifts; let God light a fire in your soul.
