Hebrews 11:25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; KJV
Sometime ago, I read a book titled _“Pastoral Ministry”_ by Bishop Dag Heward Mills, one of the finest Pastors in the country. And in that book, he narrated how he started a church as a medical student. Running a church and being a medical student is very demanding. Pursuing a medical training is demanding, let alone adding ministry to it which is also very demanding in nature.
So, the question is, how was he able to do the two works excellently? He said, he had to sacrifice his pleasure time to be able to combine these two demanding tasks. At the end of his medical training, he did excellently well and won awards, and also had a church to pastor, which today has turned into a global church.
The principle and lesson here are that of “sacrificing pleasure for the real things of life”. Most people reading this devotional wants to succeed. But not many are ready to let go pleasures and make the sacrifices required for lasting success. Today’s world is one that is pleasure driven. If you love pleasure, you will end up a failure.
If you are a young person, this is not the time to engage in unnecessary pleasurable life, partying from one place to the other – watching endless films and wasting time on social media. Your youthful days are your best days to build something of great value.
But it is not going to come cheap. You must be ready to pay the price. Sometimes you have to sacrifice certain things just to save enough money to invest into a business or a real estate property. It is not every dress that you have to buy. Avoid unnecessary subscriptions that only take your money away and add no value to your life. Stop hanging out with friends who are not pushing you to grow. Time is running out. Your generation is waiting on your manifestation.
Decide from today to make real sacrifices for your future. God did not save the world by wishing – He made the sacrifice – He killed His own beloved Son, Jesus. Sit down and find out what sacrifices you have to make to build a future that is worth living for. If you want to be great, you must be willing to pay the price – sacrifice your pleasure for your future.
