1 Thessalonians 5:19 Do not quench (suppress or subdue) the [Holy] Spirit; AMPC
You can be sidelined by the Holy Ghost. Don’t get surprised by this statement. Even though the Holy Ghost won’t leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5) irrespective of what you do, He can actually sideline you and move on to someone else who is more willing.
Why do I say so? The Holy Ghost is a perfect gentleman; and He will not force Himself on any man. When He prompts you to do something and you are disobedient for a prolonged period of time, He will sideline you and move on to somebody else who will obey Him. And when you miss such opportunities given to you by the Spirit, you may never get them again.
I know this very well as a pastor. Sometime ago, I was counselling a member of the church to be more committed and available for God’s service in the house of God. What I have realized as a pastor over the years is that, when a particular brother or sister shuns opportunities given to him or her for a period of time, and does not make him or herself available, the promptings to give that fellow responsibility in the house of God dwindles and eventually dies. So, even though that fellow is still in the church, there will be no drive to give that fellow any responsibility.
When Saul disobeyed God, God took the kingdom from him and gave it to another man called David to fulfil His plan on earth. None of us is indispensable as far as the kingdom of God is concerned. If you think you are indispensable you are sadly mistaken. You need to wake up.
For instance, if the Holy Ghost always prompts you to give in the house of God, and you start disobeying by asking yourself stupid questions like, am I the only person in this church? With time He will move on to other people and promote them to even do better than you. God will always find a way for His counsel and plans to be fulfilled on earth.
God bypasses any man who is not ready to walk with Him. God is not looking for men of ability; rather He is looking for men who are available for His use. In a football match, the coach selects those who make themselves available for selection. If a player becomes complacent, the coach puts him on the sidelines and puts someone else in his place. Do some faith check on yourself and find out where you are in the scheme of God. And position yourself very well to be used of God. Anyone who quenches the Spirit gets quenched in life.
