Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he..........

Being rich or poor has nothing to do with whether you have money or not. The presence of money in someone’s bank account is not an indication that, the fellows is rich. Neither the absence of required necessities in one’s life is an indication that the person is poor.

You can be rich in your mind and still have nothing in your account yet to show for it. While you can have lots of money in your account and still be poor.

Take the life of sportsmen for example. Many of them look rich now. But check them out 10 years after they have retired and see whether the are still living the same way they used to live when they were in their prime in their careers. I have read the stories of many of these sportsmen and some of them is very sad – some have nearly lost everything they worked for.

I tell people all the time that money doesn’t make one rich. And sometimes it is hard for some people to believe this concept. This is the reason most people work so hard in life but end up with little or nothing by the time they retire. Others earn lots of money but they are always broke and just getting by.

The trouble is that many of these people have not laid a strong financial foundation. And a strong financial foundation comes by having a strong financial education – not the one they teach in business schools. One need to be financially literate – the ability to read numbers and words as far as money matters are concerned.

Just do this simple exercise: sit down and check where your earnings come from. Then check where your spending go; then check how much you save and invest. Then check whether you are the type of person who want to be secured or get rich. This simple exercise will show the kind of mindset that you have, whether rich or poor.

People who believe in security, work jobs all their lives and retire, hoping social security will take care of them – that is the loser’s path. While those who believe in being rich build businesses and assets that generates money that will outlast them.

If you want to be rich, I counsel you to invest heavily on financial education. Personally, I hate poverty; and I really want to be very rich. Thus I study a lot on financial matters. I read books and materials by rich men to know the way they think. The difference between the poor and the rich is not money, but a mindset.
