THE PRAYER LIFE OF JESUS

14. Merry ChristmasTHE PRAYER LIFE OF JESUS

Mark 1:35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

Jesus was a man of prayer. Even though He is the Son of God, He lived as a man while He walked the earth hence He called Himself the “Son of Man”. And as the Son of Man, He needed to pray and to be anointed by the Spirit to do the things that He did.

A lot of us desire the results that we read about in the Bible concerning the ministry of Jesus. But not many know the secret to the exploits in the ministry of Jesus. One main secret to the exploits in the ministry of Jesus was His prayer life. Anytime that I read about the prayer life of Jesus, I am stirred to pray. I have meditated and studied about the prayer life of Jesus several times; it just inspires me.

Luke 5:15‭-‬16 says, “But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities. And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.” As at this time, Jesus’ ministry was everywhere. He was on television, every conference, doing mighty things. Yet at the peak of His ministry, he withdrew to the wilderness and prayed. He was not going to be fooled by the exploits in His ministry and leave prayer.

On another occasion, He prayed until His disciples asked Him to teach them how to pray. Luke 11:1 says, “And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”

On another occasion, He prayed all night. Luke 6:12 says, “And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.” At this time He was making a very important decision to choose His apostles. And even though He prayed all night, yet, there was one Judas among them. You can imagine if He had not prayed; it would have been 12 Judases.

One time He prayed until the fashion of his countenance was altered. Hallelujah! Luke 9:29 says, “And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.” In the garden of Gethsemane, He prayed until His sweat was like great drops of blood. Luke 22:44 says, “And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.”

May these scriptures that I have given you concerning Jesus, inspire you to pray like never before. May the spirit of prayer come upon you that you may become a man or woman of prayer. If you will take the time to pray consistently, you will see the hand of God in your life like never before.
