Ephesians 2:8-9 [8]For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9]Not of works, lest any man should boast.

One time while teaching along this lines of Salvation by faith in Jesus alone in a small Bible study group in a university, one fellow asked me, so Pastor, you mean all of us who are living right and walking in purity will be in heaven with all these unserious believers? So, what is the use of keeping oneself pure?

He couldn’t stand the fact that none of his good works will count for salvation. As far as he is concerned, I have taken away all his boasting and self works.

There are many of such folks today who believe that they are rapture ready all because they are living right. Living right is good – continue to live right – it has many benefits and more importantly it pleases God.

But the truth is that good works cannot save you – salvation is only found in Christ Jesus. The principle of salvation according to the New Testament is by grace through faith.

When you talk to some believers in the church, they will tell you that they will make heaven because of the good things that they have been doing – nothing is said about what Christ has done – the emphasis is always self and good works.

Salvation by grace through faith takes away all our boasting and arrogance. Our emphasis as far as salvation is concerned should be Christ’s perfect work on the cross – and in His perfect is what brings salvation – herein we stand and herein we make our boasting.
