Matthew 25:21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
In the kingdom of God faithfulness is very vital. God is a God of reckoning; from time to time He finds out what we have done with what He has freely given to us in Christ Jesus. And based on that, He rewards and promotes us. All through scripture, we see this consistency with God – He is always looking for fruit from His investments. Jesus came looking for fruit from the fig tree.
From our opening scripture is a story told of how a man delivered talents to His servants according to their ability – this implies that the master was fair in his distribution – it was according to their capacity. And for each talent that was given, the master expected dividends and results. At the time of reckoning, the one with five talents has traded and made five extra; the one with the two talents has traded it and made two extra talents; the one with one talent did nothing with his talent but hid it.
On the day of reckoning, the master was wroth and collected the talent from him and gave it to the one who was given the five talents. What was the difference between those who made profit and the other guy? The answer is faithfulness. The master replied, Well done, thou good and faithful servant. When we use what God has given to us for His glory, He calls it good. When we refuse to use what He has given to us for His glory, He calls it wickedness. It matters what we do with whatever God entrusts us with; whether it be money, gifts, opportunities, relationships, what we do with them will eventually determine our promotion.
Promotion is for those who prove faithful. The guy who has not proved faithful as a choir member should not be made a leader in the choir; the cell leader who has not proved faithful with a few members should not be made a pastor or given a bigger opportunity. Sometimes we go against all that scripture has said and promote folks who are not supposed to be promoted in the scheme of the things of God. Pastors and leaders, we need to watch it and practice what Jesus taught in the parable of the talent.
To every believer, be faithful with whatever God has endowed you with. Be faithful in your kingdom service, tithing, offerings and the likes. Promotion is for those who are faithful. No matter the size of what has been given to you, learn to be faithful and God will promote you.
