Judges 7:20 And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.
Midian had oppressed Israel for years prior to the reign of Gideon as a judge in Israel. And God raised Gideon to deliver Israel out of the oppressive hand of the Midianites. Gideon and his men went to fight Midian. On getting to the camp of Midian, they were holding in their hands a "lamp" and a "trumpet". On blowing the trumpet God discomfited the host of the Midianites and they drew their sword against each other and destroyed themselves.
The lamp here speaks of the word of God for thy word is a "lamp" unto my feet, and a light unto my path (Psalm 119:105). God’s word is the light by which we are supposed to walk with. Recently, I was thinking how I could have led my life without the word of God. I can’t just imagine myself walking without the word of God. God’s word gives us light on every issue of life – whether in your marriage, business, ministry or career, God’s word can give you the necessary light you need to walk through this dark world. Job said,
When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness; (Job 29:3)
However, it is not enough for us to see what the word is saying on an issue, but we have to put that word in our mouth and speak it forth like a trumpet. The soldiers had both lamp and trumpet. The trumpet is a picture of the announcement and proclamation of the word with our mouth. Here our mouth becomes crucial. When the Holy Ghost shed light on our hearts through the word, we are to speak it forth by faith for with heart man believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:10).
Matthew 10:27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.
And when the soldiers blew the trumpet, their enemies were confused and there was great victory that day for Israel. This principle of lamp and trumpet is where the believer’s victory lies. It is not enough to see the word; you have to speak out by faith what you see. This is what will put the devil to flight and grant you the victory that you desire in life. Speaking the word brings such amazing results. While Ezekiel spoke the word the dry bones received life; while Peter spoke these words the Holy Ghost fell on all who heard the word.
One time there was an issue concerning my health which was a nasal problem. While meditating, the Holy Ghost quickened Proverbs 18:21 (Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof) in my heart. I realized that I had death and life in my mouth. Thus I began to speak death to the situation, and that was the end of it. I knew in my heart that I got the victory. See the word by God’s light, and blow the trumpet in Zion and let the victory begin. Let the mouth speaks what the heart sees. Hallelujah!
