Romans 12:14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.
Anyone can take the Bible to mean anything; and in the process it has destroyed so many folks. I have heard that those who worship satan have a scripture for their belief. Interesting! To them since Jesus instructed us to love our enemies, we are to love satan, after all satan is our arch enemy. Jesus never meant we should love the devil. Then what we do with scriptures that say, we should resist the devil and he will flee (James 4:7)? Jesus Himself told us to cast out devils in His name (Mark 16:17). Jesus wasn’t contradicting Himself when He said we should love our enemies.
Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
This kind of enemy we are talking about here is not the devil and his cohorts. We are talking about men who hate you and treat you with disdain for no reason. The best way to deal with these people is to do them good by praying for them; giving to them. It may look foolish but that is the wisdom of Christ.
When Jesus was mistreated, He prayed for those who hurt Him and killed Him. If He hadn’t done that He would have been angry and gotten revenge, and redemption would have been forfeited and we all will be lost forever. As He prayed for their forgiveness, He positioned Himself not to be bitter; and this was His victory. You are to pay evil with good and not with evil. This is not the way the world thinks but it is the wisdom of God. It is the higher life in Christ.
Romans 12:17-21 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. 18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. 20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. 21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
When you refuse to forgive those who have wronged you, you become bitter and that robs you of the joy of the Lord. This in turn stops the flow of the anointing and shrinks your faith. One of the reasons you have to do good to those who hate you is for your own good. It is the surest way to paralyze your enemy. Solomon said when you do that you are heaping coals of fire on their head. Unforgiveness is poisonous and keeps you in bondage while forgiveness releases the giver. Praise the Lord!
