Leviticus 16:2 And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat. KJV
God spoke to Moses to tell Aaron that He will appear in the cloud within the veil before the mercy seat. Now, how is this cloud generated? Initially I thought it is God Himself who brought His own cloud like He did other times in their journey through the wilderness. But further reading of the same chapter of the opening scripture gives us great insight.
Leviticus 16:12-13 says, And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the vail: and he shall put the incense upon the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not.
This scripture tells us that it is the burning of the incense that brings the cloud within the veil – and it is in this cloud that God said He will appear unto Aaron the high priest.
Incense in scripture always mean prayer. Revelation 8:3-4 says, And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand.
Thus the golden altar of incense speaks of the prayer altar. This scripture is telling us what happens when we engage in fervent and heartfelt prayer – we generate a cloud in the spirit realm. And it is in this cloud that God reveals Himself to us. Your encounters in Christ will come through this cloud. If you don’t have one, it will be nearly impossible to encounter real power.
Hence it suffices to say that you cannot have real encounter with God if you don’t pray. There is no way you can know God if you are not a praying person. Make praying a consistent habit in your life as a believer in Christ.
There are Christians who don’t like prayer – they hate prayer meetings. Don’t be like them. Love prayer. Love to attend prayer meetings. If the church will commit to real prayer, we will generate so much cloud that will afford God the space to reveal Himself among us. Then we will see the manifestations and wondrous works of God among His people like never before.
