PLACE THE WORD BEFORE THE PEOPLE

Genesis 30:41‭ And it came to pass, whensoever the stronger cattle did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods.

When the animals came to the waters, Jacob placed the peeled rod in front of them. Thus they produced spotted animals. While they mated, the rods were before their eyes. Thus they produced exactly what they saw.

The rod here speaks of the word for thy staff and rod they comfort me (Psalm 23:4). As pastors, the more we place the word before the eyes of God's people, the more they become what they see. Be careful of what you place before the people. They become what they see. If you preach condemnation all the time, they will always feel guilty, condemned and weak; their faith will not work.

On the other hand, if you make them behold Jesus in the word, they will be changed into the very image of the word; and go from glory to glory; and become more like Christ. The word has a transforming power. And as you behold it, you are changed on the inside.

The pastor who is always talking about the wrongs in society may have a church where people are deep in sin – that’s the principle. Always show people the example of the good someone is doing – it will motivate others to do good things – that’s just the way it works. Publicly praise people who are doing the right things and it will spread in the church.

Too much focus on the wrong stuff. Let us preach the pure gospel of Jesus Christ. And the more people behold the word they will be changed into what the word talks about.
