Leviticus 14:2 This shall be the law of the leper in the day of his cleansing: He shall be brought unto the priest: KJV
There is something intriguing about the opening scripture: he shall be brought unto the priest. This connotes the leper being brought to the priest than he coming by himself. The leper here is a picture of sinners, while the priest is a picture of Jesus. Notice the one who brings the leper to the priest is not mentioned – that is the Holy Spirit – He does not draw attention to Himself as His mission on earth is to glorify Christ.
No man can come to Jesus all by himself. No fallen man can receive salvation all by himself. In salvation, you are brought to Christ by the agency of the Spirit of God. It is the Holy Spirit that draws men to Jesus.
1 Corinthians 12:3 says, “Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.” What this scripture is saying here is that, no man can confess that Jesus is Lord without the help of the Spirit of God. It is the Holy Spirit that quickens men to confess Jesus as Lord which leads to salvation.
The human nature is against the nature of God. It cannot submit to the dictates of the Spirit. Thus it will take a man who has been quickened by the Spirit to accept Christ. Of course the man has a role to play by responding to this quickening of the Spirit as the gospel is preached to him.
Thus the process of salvation is that, the gospel is preached to the sinner; the Spirit of God moves into action to bring quickening and conviction. Then the sinner has the choice to either respond to this conviction of the Spirit or reject it – acceptance brings salvation while rejection leads to damnation.
This is why we must spend a lot of time praying for the preaching of the gospel so that the Holy Spirit can move mightily on the hearts of people to make it easier for them to receive salvation. Never embark on any evangelical mission in any format without adequate investment of prayer.
