REDEMPTION CLEARLY DEFINED

02. MY YEAR OF FLOURISHING 2024 REDEMPTION CLEARLY DEFINED

Hebrews 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

There is power in redemption. The power of redemption is greater than any power in the universe; the extent of that power is unfathomable. And redemption simply means payment for ransom. It means to buy back by paying a price. And in this context of study, the price for the redemption of man is the blood of Jesus, the very life of the Son of God.

1 Peter 1:18‭-‬19 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Redemption does not necessarily mean to pay a price to buy something. In essence, you are not buying something new; you’re actually buying something that once belonged to you but was lost. It is redeeming that which was lost.

For instance, if you go to the market to buy a television set, that is not redemption even though you paid a price. But let us assume that you gave your television to a dealer as a collateral and asked him for money in a form of a loan, with the intention of coming back to pay the money for your television. Then later on, you came back with the money you borrowed and collected back your television; what you have just done is that you have redeemed your television; and that is redemption.

The essence for redeeming a property in Bible days was so that the property does not get lost forever. Years ago in Israel, God did not allow lands to move from one tribe to the other. If a man ever sold his land, and later wants to redeem it, he can do so by paying the price of redemption. If he doesn’t have the money, a kinsman, a relative who has money can pay the redemption price and redeem the land back to the family. Other than that, they would have to wait till the year of jubilee where lands are returned to their original owners and slaves are set free.

Christ is our redemption; this is emphatic! The price of our redemption is the blood of Jesus Himself. And since the life of the flesh is in the blood, thus Jesus gave His life for us; it cost God the precious life of His beloved Son to redeem you.

Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood thatching maketh an atonement for the soul.

And this work of redemption ensured that we were not lost forever. Christ bought back that which belonged to Him. Now in Christ, we are forever with God, not to be lost again; this is eternal redemption. Our redemption is complete and total.
