THAT I MAY BURY MY DEAD OUT OF MY SIGHT

02. MY YEAR OF FLOURISHING 2024 THAT I MAY BURY MY DEAD OUT OF MY SIGHT

Genesis 23:3 ¶ And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spake unto the sons of Heth, saying 4 I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.

The Bible is just littered with revelations concerning Jesus on every page. You can find Jesus in the shadows. In the scripture above Sarah had just died and Abraham was seeking a place to bury his dead out of his sight among the children of Heth. I love the phrase, “bury my dead out of my sight”. The children of Heth wanted to give him the sepulcher free of charge but Abraham insisted he wanted to pay for it. I love this kind of mentality – no free things.

In reality there are no free things in life. They say salvation is free but that’s not true – it cost God everything He has (His beloved Son) to give us salvation. Everything that looks free has been paid by someone. Finally, Ehpron decided to sell his field in Macpelah to Abraham which contained a sepulcher for four hundred shekels of silver. Everywhere in the Bible silver speaks of redemption – that’s consistent. So the price Abraham paid is a picture of the price of redemption. The reason why Abraham wanted to buy a sepulcher was to bury his dead out of his sight.

This is the revelation: once upon a time when man sinned against a holy God we died – we were separated from God. In order for God to bury His dead out His sight and completely wiped out our sins out of sight, He paid a ransom in Jesus. The price of our redemption was Jesus’ blood hence His life. And by that one price, God has buried His dead out of sight forever never to be resurrected anymore.

Today, we are alive in Christ never to die again or be separated from God. We are eternally one with Him. This is the gospel message you need to believe. Today, what God sees is a beautiful and blessed new creation in His sight forever for in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight (Hosea 6:3). Now in Christ Jesus we live in His (God) sight forever never to be separated again. Glory to God!
