YOUR KINGSHIP STATUS

02. GRACE PLUS CHURCH DAYSYOUR KINGSHIP STATUS
Sunday, 25th August 2024
Pastor Victor

Revelation 1:5-6 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

You were born a king; thus you are a king by birth. Our kingship came from the redemptive work of Christ. He washed us in His own blood and has made us kings and priests unto our God. So you see the construction? The verse 6 of the opening scripture begins with “and” which is a conjunction connecting the verse 6 to the verse 5. The verse 5 talks about we being washed by the blood of Jesus. And the verse 6 says, “and has made us”. This implies that our kingship status is from Christ’s redemptive work.

As kings, we came from His redemptive work. We were not redeemed; rather we came out from His redeeming work. Every born again believer is a king in the kingdom of God. Our royal status was conferred on us by Jesus. It is not something that we earned by our works. It is the result of the finished work of Christ.

The word “king” in Revelations 1:6 and mostly in the New Testament is from the Greek word “basileus” which according to Thayer means leader of the people, prince, commander, lord of the land, king; and it has the notion of a foundation of power. Strong's defines it as a sovereign king.

Kingship begins with “being” and not “doing” nor “works”. A king’s function and operation stems from who he is and not what he does. That’s vital! If you don’t know who you are, you cannot function well. If you don’t know that you are the principal of a school, you cannot function well as the principal.

A king is a supreme being; a king is sovereign; one who has the final authority in matters concerning his kingdom. When the king speaks, that’s final. A king is a ruler; a king is a governmental entity; a king’s orders must be obeyed; king is a royal being.

From the definition of the word “king”, we see God’s plan for us. Kings are supreme beings with sovereign power and rulership. And if we are kings, this is who we are. We are to dominate the earth; dominate disease; dominate the devil and his cohorts.

The unfortunate thing that has happened to the body of Christ is that, most of the people don’t know who they are in Christ. They have no clue of their royal status in Christ. We are not referring to royals of the earth whose authority is limited to a particular jurisdiction. I am talking about royals of heaven whose authority is the name of Jesus, boundless authority.

Sometimes, you look at some believers in Christ and wonder if they are truly kings. This is because when you look at the life some of these so called believers live, there is no trace of royalty in it. If we are sick just like the world; if we are poor just like the world; if we cannot dominate circumstances of life and have become victims, then where is the proof of our kingship status? You are king and hence reign as one through grace and faith. Hallelujah!
