TRAINING BABIES IN THE CHURCH

Galatians 4:1‭-‬2 Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be Lord of all; But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.‬‬

Babies cannot take care of themselves. It is not possible. It will be wrong to give birth to a child and leave him to fend for himself. The baby has to be fed; his diaper has to be changed; he needs to be bathed from time to time; the baby needs to be dressed. The list just goes on and on. Spiritually is the same. Babies are people who always need the Pastor for everything. They cannot handle things on their own. The danger is that, the day you cannot reach the Pastor, then there is trouble.

For the discipler or the Pastor, knowing this fact helps you to help such people to grow and also tolerate them while they are in the babyhood stage of the faith walk. The Pastor or the discipler is totally responsible for the development of the new infant in Christ Jesus. You ensure he is being fed with the sincere milk of the word.

1 Peter 2:1‭-‬2 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

As it is in the natural so it is in the spiritual. It will be wrong to lead someone to Christ and ask the person to join any church he feels like going. You are not different from the mother who gives birth and abandons the baby to take care of himself. That’s suicidal. It will take a hard-hearted mother to do that.

Unfortunately, this phenomenon is done in the church from time to time. Someone leads someone to Christ, and tells him, join any Bible believing church. I see some preachers on television who does that. That is not appropriate. The baby believer in Christ does not know what is a Bible believing church. He cannot differentiate between a false church and good church. It is you the one who led him to Christ responsible to show him where to go to be nurtured.

When you lead someone to Christ, ensure you bring the fellow to church and get him grounded in the things of God. If he is far away from your church, find out from him the churches around him and direct him where to go. And as he gets to church, ensure he gets to the Pastor to introduce himself and tell him about his conversion. And let him get you the Pastors phone number for you to contact him and ensure he is in safe hands. Then you have completed your job. And thank God for social media today; you can reach him on it from time to time by sending him messages relevant for his growth. This is what discipleship is all about.

When someone gets born again and joins a church, the Pastor must of necessity locate them and begin the growth process as soon as possible; this is where the foundation class comes in. That’s what a good Pastor does. You job is to tend the flock.
