THE PROPHET WHO DIED BROKE

02. GRACE PLUS CHURCH DAYSTHE PROPHET WHO DIED BROKE
Sunday, 6th October 2024
Pastor Victor

2 Kings 4:1 Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the Lord : and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.

This is one of the most pathetic stories in the Bible: a Prophet of God who died broke and left debt for the family to pay; and the creditor threatened to take his two sons as slaves to pay for a debt they did not owe. Sad! Sad! Sad! Poverty is cruel. Don’t let it get a hold of you. Poverty stinks and makes men undignified. What are you going to leave for your children? Have you given it a thought?

I believe with all of my heart this kind of situation in our opening scripture is still ongoing today in the body of Christ. There are many suffering Pastors around the world; and there are many who may die broke. May you not be among them. The truth is, many Pastors like this broke Prophet of God do not possess kingdom ministerial financial intelligence. I tell people that, with what the Holy Spirit has shown me from the word and still showing me, I cannot be broke for the rest of my life. This is not arrogance. It is simple faith in God’s word.

Kingdom prosperity does not answer to fasting and prayers. Most preachers are deceived into thinking that anointing equals prosperity. That’s not in the scriptures; it is twisted theology of ignorant men. Notice the man in our opening scripture was a prophet of God and also feared the Lord. His fear of God could not shield him from the cold, rugged, and harsh hands of poverty. Unlike the Prophet Elisha who understood supernatural supplies, he lacked financial intelligence hence he died broke and a debtor.

My prayer for Pastors all over the world is that you will not end up broke so that your kids will not grow up to hate ministry. Proverbs 13:22 says, “A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.” We must leave wealth for our children’s children. However, this does not happen because you are a good man or a Pastor.

There are kingdom laws in scripture governing prosperity that must be strictly adhered to in order to see supernatural supplies. The law of sowing is a major law that must be practiced by Pastors. There are Pastors who only receive offerings but are not givers. Something happens to your church if you are giver. It empowers your members to get involved.

Depend absolutely on God; don’t look to man for supplies hence lobby around no man’s resources. And also, you must be diligent in your work and find something profitable to do as a child of God for God only blesses the work of your hands. Declare a holy war against poverty today!
