Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
When God created Adam in the beginning, He commanded him to freely eat from every except from only one tree, the tree of knowledge of good and evil. God told Adam, in the day you eat of it, you shall surely die. Unfortunately, man ate what he was told not to eat. Something remarkably happened when the first couple on the earth partook of the tree of knowledge of good and evil: their eyes were opened to see their nakedness.
Genesis 3:9-10 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
When they partook of the wrong tree, they saw their nakedness and were afraid. What you eat determines what you see. Now let us look at another two individuals which some believe they were husband and wife (which I don’t know for sure), Cleopas and another person. These were disciples of Jesus and were on their way to a city called Emmaus.
As they communed about Jesus, Jesus Himself showed up and walked with them for that 7 miles journey, expounding unto them the scriptures of things concerning Himself.
On getting to their destination, while they sat at meat, Jesus took bread and gave thanks and gave it to them. When they ate the bread (the Holy Communion), their eyes were opened and they saw Jesus, they knew Him experientially. Hallelujah!
Luke 24:30-31 And it came to pass, as he sat at the table with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
One couple ate of the wrong tree and they saw their nakedness; another partook from the tree of life and they saw Jesus. What message are you hearing? Is it the gospel or the law that condemns and never justifies. If you hear teachings that focuses on the law and sin, you are eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. On the other hand, if you feed from the Holy Communion or the gospel of grace, you are feeding from the tree of life. And the more you feed the more you see Jesus. What do you want to see? Your nakedness or Jesus? The choice is yours.
Sometimes you never saw a friend or brother as a bad person until someone came and maligned the person to you. The person who once upon a time was so nice in your eyes, you now see the person as a devil due to what you heard. What you eat determines what you see.
