FAITHFUL TITHING QUALIFIES YOU FOR LEADERSHIP

Luke 16:11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?‬‬‬‬‬‬

One of the qualifications for being a pastor is “given to hospitality”. That means the pastor must be generous. This is very vital. May be you have not thought about it.

1 Timothy 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

This is why in some churches, one of the criteria for leadership is “faithful tithing”. If you are not a faithful tither, you cannot be a leader in these churches.

And I agree with them. If a leader isn’t a tither, how will he encourage other members to tithe? And when a leader is not a giver, it can affect the church negatively; it does not promote a life of prosperity. And since God wants His people prosperous, then you have no business been in leadership in the house of God.

John Maxwell said, “Everything rises and falls on leadership”. Thus everything begins with the leader. If the leader doesn’t tithe, chances are, the members will not tithe. Leadership is no place for jokers and unfaithful people. Something strange about leadership: whatever the leader does affects the followers, either knowingly or unknowingly.

I read a sad and bizarre story in a book about a senior Pastor who was having affair with a member of the church. And this was in secret and people didn’t know about it. Later on, the lady became pregnant and the whole thing was exposed.

But there were more surprises to follow. Unknowingly to each of them, pastors and leaders and members were involved in this sinful act. One evening at church, the associate pastor also confessed openly of sexual immoral act he has been having with one lady in the church; he said, he had slept with four ladies in the church.

When the senior Pastor started, it triggered to the down lines. That’s the power of leadership. Whatever the leader is the followers will be.

Peter and John who were followers of Jesus spoke with great boldness that the Pharisees took notice of them that they had been with Jesus. Why? That was the same way that Jesus spoke while He walked on earth. His life of boldness rubbed on His followers.

So, faithful tithers are potential leaders in the house of God. Pastors and leaders should of necessity check the records and find out if their leaders are faithful tithers. It is very important. A tithing pastor will produce tithing members. A stingy pastor will produce stingy members; and that’s dangerous.

Of course, I believe that one should not tithe necessarily because he wants to be made a leader in the house of God but because he loves the Lord. But I believe it is very important that leaders in the church should tithe consistently and be given to generosity. It will help the church a great deal.
