Philippians 2:12-13 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
God is to us what the system unit is to the display or monitor of a computer. In a computer set up, what is very vital is the system unit. This is where all the processing goes on. If you haven't seen the system unit, all you will assume is that it is the display doing the job. It is really God who is at work in us; you have to know that; it is not us trying to accomplish anything. Rather it is God who is working in us and through us.
In our opening text, we are admonished by the Spirit through the Apostle Paul to work out our salvation with fear and trembling in the verse 12. But the verse 13 gives us an insight on how these things work: for it is God who works in us both to will and to do His good pleasure. It implies that it is God who actually puts the willingness and desires in us and empowers us to do His good pleasure for which He created us for.
This consciousness will cause you to rest in the Lord and see God do mighty things in you and through you. This takes the pressure off you. We are not trying to make anything happen. All we need to do is to stay connected to God. Just like the branch cannot bear fruit without the vine, so also we can't except we stay connected to Jesus who is the true vine. From Him we draw strength and vitality to function effectively.
I cannot go dry because I am connected to Jesus all the time; I am always in constant fellowship. Without sounding proud, I have maintained my spiritual fervor over the years. Those who truly know me know that I haven't gone down; it has been upward and forward only. The secret is that, I am in constant fellowship with Jesus all the time through consistent prayer and meditation on the word of God.
When you are in union and fellowship with Jesus, you are always full of sap and power. You become bold and ready to take on anything in the world; you become daring and fearless and a threat to the devil and his cohorts.
Those who don't have this understanding of the relationship between the vine and the branches, do run out and burn out. To burn without burning out, you must stay in continuous fellowship with the Holy Ghost through prayer, meditation on the word day and night, listening to God and doing His instructions.
