Jeremiah 32:8‭-‬9 So Hanameel mine uncle's son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the Lord , and said unto me, Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance is thine, and the redemption is thine; buy it for thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of the Lord . And I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle's son, that was in Anathoth, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver.‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬.‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬.‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

The Prophet Jeremiah was raised by God to preach in a day where Israel had gone away from Jehovah. Israel had gone into idolatry, both kings and rulers all involved in this abomination. In the midst of this evil practice, God raised Jeremiah to bring His people back to Him. Jeremiah prophesied so many years but the folks were obstinate hence they went into captivity.

One time while Jeremiah prophesied, the people were incensed and arrested him and threw him into prison. But while in prison, Jeremiah bought a land from his cousin Hanameel, a very powerful name which means God’s grace. Jeremiah was no broke Prophet; even in prison he was buying a field. Now there are no insignificant detail in the Bible. Right in the midst of this unpleasant story lies a powerful truth of redemption. Notice Jeremiah bought the field while in prison.

In the parable of the treasure hid in the field, Jesus said, the field means the world. When Adam sinned, the whole world was thrown into total chaos and mess. In the field is a treasure the merchant bought. By Adam’s sin all men became sinners and subject to God’s wrath and judgment.

Jeremiah bought the field at the price of 17 shekels of silver. Silver speaks of redemption while the number 17 speaks of victory. Our victory is in His redemptive work. When Jesus died, He went to hell’s prison. And by His death, He purchased our redemption. And it is this redemptive work that brought us our victory.

Jesus bought you with a heavy price. This implies you are of great value. You are the treasure hid in the field which that merchant sold everything to buy; you were bought with a price. Jesus bought you with His precious blood which is His life; you are worth His life. Have some sense of dignity in life. Don’t live like a beggar; don’t appear needy before men, looking for help; that will break the heart of Jesus. Walk and talk like a king.
