Romans 8:16 AMPC The Spirit Himself [thus] testifies together with our own spirit, [assuring us] that we are children of God.
The term “bears witness” in Romans 8:16 is from the Greek word “Summartureō” which means to testify jointly, that is corroborate by concurrent evidence, bear witness etc. It also means to affirm, assure, and provide evidence to your spirit that you are a child of God.
The Holy Ghost in you is the credible evidence that you are a child of God. Apostle Paul makes this truth more emphatic in this manner:
Romans 8:9 ……. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Any man without the Holy Ghost is not saved. Now let me clarify something here. When I say any man without the Holy Ghost is not saved, I don’t mean any man who have not received the Holy Ghost as the second experience with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues. You can be born again and not speak in tongues.
You must know that to be born again is the sanctifying work of the Spirit (1 Peter 1:2). Without the Holy Ghost one cannot be born again. Thus every believer have the Holy Spirit resident in them. But there is also the second experience of receiving the Holy Spirit with tongue speaking as the initial evidence.
If you are asked how do you know you are a child of God, what will be your answer? Of course based on scripture, we all know that if one truly confess the Lordship of Jesus then he is saved.
But more so, the one who makes the Fatherhood of God real to you is the Holy Ghost. Thus no one can all God Father without the Holy Ghost.
The Holy Ghost brings the Fatherhood of God to you. He is the Spirit by which we cry Abba Father.
Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
