1 Corinthians 9:11 If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?

In the kingdom of God, the pastor rules by feeding. The word “rule” and “feed” are often used interchangeably in scripture. This implies that ruling equals feeding. You don’t rule by controlling people and manipulating them; you rule by feeding them with God’s wisdom and knowledge. This is what Apostle Peter has to say:

1 Peter 5:1‭-‬3 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; Neither as being Lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.

The pastor is not there to entertain you. His assignment to you is clear from scriptures: to feed you with God’s word and guide you by the Spirit. Many of God’s people unfortunately go to church, seeking to be entertained. They look at the lighting, music, choreography, graphics, sound, colour of the carpet and chairs. In as much as these things are important, they are not the main thing spelt out in scripture for the believer.

Acts 20:28 says, “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.”

One cardinal sign of a good pastor is one who is anointed to feed you with God’s word. He builds you with God’s word and through the anointing strengthens you. When devil attacks you, you will forget the colour of the carpet of the church or whether the choir sung well in the last service. What you will need when the devil knocks on your door is the word you have been taught.

Any pastor who entertains the people and do not feed God’s people with His word is a joker and a comedian. Jesus entrusted His flock to Peter after He Rose from the dead, and commanded him to feed His flock:

John 21:15‭-‬17 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.‬‬‬

I strongly believe Jesus is very concerned about the church He died for. As the Great Shepherd, He wants His flock to be fed. And the pastor is the one who has been given the responsibility to feed the flock of God.
