Job 34:14-15 If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath; All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust. KJV
One time while doing by daily reading of my Bible, I stumbled into the opening scripture and the Spirit of God used it to lit a fire in my heart. In fact, the next day I spent over an hour just praying over this scripture.
If you know the import and weight of this scripture you will not take the Holy Ghost and the anointing for granted anymore. What this scripture implies is that if God take away His breath and Spirit from this Earth, all men will perish and return to dust. All men are kept alive by something they don’t even know, the breath of God.
For the believer in Christ, this means more than just being alive. What this scripture means much more is that, without the Holy Ghost involved in whatever we are doing, that thing has no life and it is just dust. This was why David in his confession asked that the Holy Ghost not to be taken away from him; he knew what it meant to be without the Spirit.
Especially in ministry, our results will just be like dust and mundane if the anointing doesn’t rest strong on us. This leaves us with no other option but to contend and press for the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Our preaching will be dust without the anointing and the Spirit on it; our music will be boring without the Spirit resting mightily on it; there will be no miracles, awakenings and manifestations of the Spirit.
God knew this secret but the church seems not to bother about it; we seem comfortable with something that has a form of godliness but lacks power. The first Sanhedrin (70 elders of Israel) that were chosen to help Moses with the work of ministry, had to first receive the Spirit. Unfortunately, by the time they got to the time of Jesus, they had transited from the Spirit to the traditions of men and the letter that kills, they left the Spirit.
Before Jesus started out His ministry, He went for the Spirit and the anointing. Before the Apostles went out to preach the gospel of Christ, they waited till they were endued with power from high. This generation is so obsessed with manifestation that they don’t have time to wait long before the Lord for empowerment. I believe it is time we shut certain meetings down and go to God and stay there till power from heaven fall on us. If we will stay long with the Holy Ghost in prayer and fellowship, there will be a mighty rubbing of the anointing on us to do mighty works for Jesus.
