BE A DISCERNING FOLLOWER

Hebrews 6:12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Followership is the other side of leadership. All great leaders were once great followers of those who were ahead of them. Our making is in our following. Jesus said, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. If you don’t follow you will never be made.

Our opening scripture is a word of instruction. The Holy Spirit is admonishing us to be followers of those who inherit the promises. This implies that we are to follow men whose faith have been proven over time; I am talking about men whose faith has accomplished great feats for them.

Unfortunately, many in the body of Christ don’t know how to follow. Many just follow with their head buried in the sand; doing everything their mentor is doing, whether good or bad. Look at our opening scripture again; we are told to be followers of those who through faith and patience inherit the promise. The emphasis here is their “faith” and not foolishness.

The truth is that many followers have journeyed into a land of no return because they did not follow rightly. Over the years, I have listened to thousands of hours of tapes of different anointed men of God. And sometimes as you listen, you will hear them correcting some wrong doctrine or mannerisms they used to teach or do.

Sadly, others copied ignorantly and may never have the chance of listening to this man of God who has learnt his lessons in life. The key here is being a discerning follower, allowing the Holy Spirit and the word to guide you from within.

Kenneth Hagin once said about a dear man of God, follow his faith but not his doctrine except his doctrine is right. Some folk’s doctrine may be wrong but their faith may be working; follow their faith.

And sometimes don’t just copy what you see another man of God is doing; it could be something God has asked him to do; and not necessarily for others to do; what worked for him may not work for you. Get wisdom brother! The body of Christ is littered with men whose faith has worked; follow their faith and patience.
