John 16:6 KJV But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
In the book of Genesis, we are told of the story of how Joseph’s brothers lied to their father Jacob that he was dead. Scripture indicates that Jacob cried and mourned for his son. But in reality Joseph wasn’t dead – he was alive and well in a strange land. Jacob cried because of what he heard.
Words are carriers of emotions. In our opening scripture, Jesus emphasized that because of what He had said, the disciples were sorrowful.
You can use words to change the emotions of a people. Hence you can use words to make people happy or sorrowful.
When you know this, you will be much more careful of the use of your words. Many have suffered emotional beatings simply because of the words that were spoken to them.
And the wounds caused by words sometimes take forever to heal than physical wounds. May God grant you wisdom to speak well in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
