Matthew 26:40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

The issue of the use of time in prayer is important. It may not be everything in prayer but it is important. Sometimes people deceive themselves that they have prayed for 4 hours whereas they have just prayed for 30 minutes if they don’t use the clock.

When you pray without the clock, you could be deceived that you have prayed for that long whereas you have just prayed for a few minutes. But the moment you start praying and you watch the clock and know what time you started, you can actually tell how much time you have spent in prayer. However, this doesn’t mean that you have to be looking at the clock all the while you are praying. Just know when you started and know when you ended.

The advantage of using the clock in prayer is that it helps you to know your ability in prayer. You get to know how much time you are able to spend in prayer. For some people they can only pray for 30 minutes. Others can go for 1 hour. While others could go several hours.

I believe in long prayers. Bishop Dag Heward Mills said, “As far as I am concerned, I have always considered short prayers to be insignificant; and that has made me spent more time in prayer.” The more time you spend with God, the better it is. Intimacy cannot be built with less time. It takes some quantity of time to build a solid intimacy with someone. And when it comes to the Lord, you will need some good amount of time to build a strong and solid relationship with Him.

Jesus asked His disciples, could you not watch with me for an hour? This tells you that, the minimum amount of time for ministers to spend in prayer is 1 hour. Jesus lets you know that time is important in prayer.

One time Jesus prayed from evening till the fourth watch of the night, spanning like 10 hours. When He was done, He came walking on the water. If we will spend quality and good amount of time in prayer, we will walk in tremendous power and miracles and walk over the things that sink other people.
