Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. KJV
The word meditate is from the Hebrew word “hagah” which means to think, muse pensively, ponder, imagine, mutter, speak under your breath and to roar. These are different levels of meditation. Meditation is not something you do once a while. If you want to have good success as the Bible teaches, you would have to meditate on the word day and night. This is a daily and a consistent thing you have to do.
Meditation is the birthplace for light; meditation brings light; and light brings faith; and faith is what you need to please God; and the just shall live only by faith. Thus if you don’t meditate, there are depths of revelations you will not be able to access them.
You must know the scriptures. The Holy Spirit will bring to your remembrance what you already know. If you don’t know the word, there will be nothing to bring to your remembrance; and hence nothing to meditate on. Develop the habit of reading and studying the word of God. Also, learn to memorize scriptures; this is one fine practice that is missing in many lives in the church today.
Meditation involves the usage of the mind; where you reason the word for understanding and light. Your mind connects with your spirit where light is birthed, then it floods your mind. Many believers are not using their minds productively. Your mind is such that whatever you feed it with, it will give it back to you in increased measure.
Engage in intentional meditation. This is where you have special days where you meditate on the word. Of course, you are supposed to meditate on the word each day. But you can also set aside certain times for meditation on the word. Meditation drives the word deep down your heart; it causes the word to settle in your mind and heart; it causes the word to saturate in your heart. Word saturation can only be attained through meditation. Meditation establishes the word in your heart and makes it strong in you.
It is not enough to know the word; you have to meditate. Take the portion of scripture that speaks to you and meditate on it – speak it under your breath. When you speak it, your mind is able to capture it; regurgitate it and bring it back every now and then, till you suck the juice out of it. The truth is God’s word is always full of juice no matter how much you have sucked from a particular scripture – there is always more juice for the taking.
God gives us an open invitation to a life of meditation: *_Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be like wool (Isaiah 1:18) AMPC_*
You can reason your way out of every crisis. Life is a function knowing what to do. And knowledge springs from a life of meditation. A lot of folks in this life and in the church are not using their head; they are mentally handicapped. The prodigal son reasoned his way out of poverty and shame and suffering. Cultivate the habit of meditating on the word day and night.
