1 Chronicles 21:1 And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.

Someone once said, “Whatever a giant does has more power.” The impact an ordinary man’s punch will do is not the same as that of a giant. The reason is that the giant has more weight hence everything he does carries a great impact. There is a difference between leaders and followers. What a leader says has more weight than what a follower says. What a leader does has more weight than a follower.

If a leader falls into a sexual immoral act or embezzlement of funds, it will make headlines. On the other hand, if a follower does the same thing, it’s impact will not be felt much. It is simple: the leader has more influence and power than the follower.

From our opening scripture, we are told how satan incited David to number Israel, something the law forbade it. That’s one reason why Joab was reluctant in carrying out the king’s commandment. And as a matter of fact, there is the law of God that says, before there will be a numbering, there has to be offering made by each person to be numbered. David under the influence of satan violated God’s law and numbered Israel.

The end result of that transgression brought God’s plague on Israel and it caused 70,000 men to die in Israel. One man’s sin affected thousands; again the power of leadership. But the scripture made it clear, it was satan who incited David to violate God’s law. The devil knew the repercussions hence the incitation.

It is vital we pray for our leaders; it is easier to criticize than to pray. Choose to to pray for your leaders. One incitation from the enemy on a leader can cause many to perish. We have seen this in many countries, especially in Africa where as a result of certain leaders’ untoward behaviour, has led to the massacre of millions of lives. The civil war in Liberia is a typical example.

Pray for your Pastor. Don’t criticize him. He is satan’s target. Don’t you know satan’s strategy: strike the shepherd and the sheep shall scatter? And if satan can get to your Pastor, he can trouble your faith. A lot of the fall of leaders of churches into sexual immorality and church funds embezzlement have been stirred up by the devil.

Let us rise to pray for our church leaders. Every member should pray for his Pastor. Every citizen should pray for the leaders of their respective countries. If we will do this, the Bible says, we will live a quite and peaceable life.
