ABIDE WITH GRACE AND YOU WILL BE SAFEGUARDED

ABIDE WITH GRACE AND YOU WILL BE SAFEGUARDED

1 Samuel 22:23 Abide thou with me, fear not: for he that seeketh my life seeketh thy life: but with me thou shalt be in safeguard.

After David killed Goliath of Gath, Saul became jealous and sought to kill him. Saul persecuted David from city to city. On one occasion, David went to Ahimilech in the city of Nob, and Ahimelech gave David hallowed bread and the sword of Goliath. An Edomite by the name Doeg reported the matter to king Saul; and Saul commanded Doeg to kill all the priests of Nob, only a certain young priest named Abiathar escaped. And Abiathar ran to David and David told him that, Abide thou with me, fear not: for he that seeketh my life seeketh thy life: but with me thou shalt be in safeguard (1 Sam 22:23).

These were comforting words to Abiathar; however, God is still speaking it to us today. Abiathar is gone but we can put our name there and receive those strong comforting words. Here in this story David is type of Christ hence grace. The message God is telling us is that, if we will abide with grace, we will be safeguarded from all the harshness and oppressions of life. Abiathar was obedient and stayed on with David all through his persecutions. Later on when David became king, Abiathar became the chief priest. Hallelujah!

Romans 5:1-2 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Glory to God! We have access into grace, and that’s where we stand. If you don’t believe that your past, present and future sins have been forgiven by Christ’s work on the cross, you will suffer guilt and condemnation. If you don’t believe that Jesus paid for your health, your struggle with sickness still continues, with doctors making some good money from you. When you believe that Jesus wore the crown of thorns for you, then you can enjoy sound mind. If you don’t believe Jesus became poor that you might be rich, your struggle with poverty continues.

After Jesus had journeyed with those two disciples to Emmaus, He made as though He was continuing His journey. But those disciples constrained Him to abide with them. When they did, Jesus opened their eyes through the Holy Communion and they knew Him. Grace will open your eyes to see the beauty of Jesus and His glorious power.

There is just so much blessing in abiding with grace. Unfortunately, many of God’s folks have not understood what grace is, the unmerited favor of God. They are still deep in works and human ability to please God.

There are believers who are abiding with the law, the ten commandments and it’s governing principles. The end result is death and defeat. I admonish you today to make a diligent search to understand the grace of God in truth. It is worth the investment. Abide with grace and you will be safeguarded.
