SUPERNATURAL ACCELERATION

1Kings 18:46 And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

Acceleration is an increase in how fast something happens per time. It is also the rate at which a vehicle increases in speed (Advanced Oxford Learners Dictionary). In physics, it is change in velocity per time. Hence there are time and speed factors in acceleration. The word “supernatural” simply means beyond the natural laws and natural course of life. Hence supernatural acceleration means increase in speed per time which is not normal and beyond the explanation of any natural law.

In our opening scripture, we were told that Elijah out run a chariot. Wow! This is beyond the normal; a man outrunning a chariot! There must be something extraordinary in this scenario. Now this chariot was the one the king rode; this was the best chariot in Israel; and yet Elijah did outrun it. Horses are very fast animals; for a man to outrun it, there has to be a supernatural factor in that regard.

The distance between Mt. Carmel and Jezreel is 20 miles; and that was the distance Elijah did run. Running that distance without being a sprinter is serious; it shows something unusual was happening.

This was not a marathon race; this was a fast one. To outrun the best chariot in Israel with human legs is huge. An unusual force was carrying Elijah along that it wasn't him running; it was the work of the Holy Ghost. He was riding on the wings of the Spirit. No sprinter, no matter how fast he is can beat a horse in a 20 mile race.

Remember Elijah was not a sprinter; he has done no rehearsals nor training; neither was he dressed in a sprinter's costume. Elijah wore a coat with a belt tied on the waist. This is not the dress for sprinters; it is even a disadvantage in a race. What made the difference was the power of God at work. It does not matter your disadvantages in life; if God’s power carries you, no force in heaven and earth and beneath the earth can stop you.

The devil knows that his time is short thus he is working at a faster pace than ever before. We too need to move faster than ever before. The gospel must be preached at a faster pace with a sense of urgency. Time is short and limited hence we need supernatural speed. Churches needs to grow faster than ever before. Our businesses need to grow faster than ever before. Our finances ought to increase like never before in order for us to cover the world with the gospel of Jesus in no time.

However, the key to supernatural acceleration lies in what happened to Elijah: the hand of the Lord came upon him. It will take the power of the Holy Ghost to enjoy divine acceleration. Firstly, you must desire for speed; secondly, ask the Lord in prayer and spend time praying in the Holy Ghost to stir up the power of God from within you. It is not by might nor by power (Zechariah 4:6); it is by the hand of God. May God grant you speed and cause you to outrun chariots of life and ride on the high places of the earth in Jesus’ name.
