MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT MONEY

Ecclesiastes 10:10 If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.
When you have a misconception about a thing, you are actually walking in deception and error; and what you need at that moment us to know the truth of God’s word. I believe one thing a lot of folks have a misconception about even including some Christians is money. For this reason, they are not able to enjoy the financial blessing as scripture teaches us. There are a couple of misconceptions about money I want to counter here.
First on the list is “money is the root of all evil”. This is a lie from the pit of hell.
1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Money in itself is not the root of all evil but the love of it. It speaks of lusting and coveting after money – the Bible warns us against getting to the point where money becomes our god – the motivation for everything we do in life. This attitude will lead us to untold sorrow as we see in society today. Folks are engaging In all kinds of illegal means (money rituals, cocaine, stealing of public and private funds) to acquire money.
The second misconception is, “it is not good to have too much money, as it will make you not to make it to heaven”. This statement has no validation in the scriptures – it is right from the pit of hell. The patriarchs who walked with God were so rich. Concerning Isaac, Genesis 26:13-14 says “ And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great: 14 For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him”.
Abraham was called the friend of God. Look at what the Holy Spirit said concerning him:
Genesis 24:35 And the LORD hath blessed my master (Abraham) greatly; and he is become great: and he hath given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and asses.
Now don’t spiritualize anything here. All the blessings that were mentioned here are physical. Time would fail me to talk about Jacob, Joseph, Boaz, David, Solomon etc. These folks were all rich yet they walked with God. I know some would say that Jesus said, “it is hard for those that are rich to enter into the kingdom of God” according to Mark 10:23. The next verse of that scripture clarifies it all:
And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! (Mark 10:24)
This was a statement made to someone who trusted in his self- righteousness and Jesus brought him to the end of himself by asking him to sell all his possessions. He left sorrowful, not ready to do what Jesus told him.
What Jesus was implying is that, those that trust in riches will find it difficult entering into the kingdom of God. It is not only talking about going to heaven; but it also means that those that trust in riches rather than God will find it difficult enjoying life in the kingdom of God. This is one reason those who have money don’t believe in divine health and healing and the miraculous. Why would they, when they can afford any medical service in the world?
God said, the silver and gold are mine (Hag 2:8). God claims ownership of all wealth in the world. If money is evil then God is evil. But God forbid! God is a good God and so is money. Money only takes on the character of the owner. A drunkard will spend his money on some bottles. If you don’t want money, why don’t you bring yours to me? God wants you to have money but He does not want money to have you. Put God first, and money will chase after you.
Prayer of Salvation
Dear God, I believe that Jesus died and was raised for me. I confess Jesus as the Lord of my life. I receive eternal life into my spirit. I declare that I am born again in Jesus’ name.
