Luke 4:22 And all bare him [Jesus] witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?
One character in the Bible that really inspires me anytime I meditate on him is Joseph. This fellow was an exceptional guy. Sometimes I wonder how he was raised and where he got his solid attitude and character, and even his work ethics. Joseph was an outstanding guy.
Joseph in essence was a king in the guise of a servant. Even though he was sold into slavery in Egypt and served as a slave, he was no slave. He was a slave on the outside, but on the inside, he was a prince.
When he was called upon to be brought before Pharaoh to interpret the king’s dream, scripture says, he took his time and shaved and changed his raiment – he was not in a hurry – neither was he at the mercy of Pharaoh. He wanted to appear well dressed before the king – he was concerned about his looks and appearance – that’s the mindset of a king.
By the time he was through lecturing Pharaoh, not only did he interpret his dream, but also gave counsel on what to be done, Pharaoh and his official were stunned and could not believe a slave could talk with so much wisdom like that. Immediately, Pharaoh broke all protocols and made Joseph the second ruler in all of Egypt, with only Pharaoh higher than him.
Joseph is a picture of Christ. When Jesus walked the earth, He was a king in the guise of a servant. Scripture says, there was no comeliness in Him that we should desire Him. But when He spoke leprosy left, the dead came alive, with five loaves and two fishes He fed 5000 men beside women and children; when He spoke the storms and wind ceased; demons trembled at His presence and sought for hiding place. When He spoke deaf ears were unstopped and the mute spoke.
One time certain soldiers were asked to go arrest Jesus. When they got there Jesus was speaking in a meeting. Unfortunately for them, they waited after He had finished speaking to arrest Him. But by the time Jesus was through speaking, they left without arresting Him. When they got to those who sent them, they were asked, why didn’t you bring Him? The soldiers replied, never a man spoke like this man. These soldiers were overwhelmed by the wisdom that proceeded from the mouth of Jesus. Jesus was a king in the guise of a servant. Hallelujah!
