HEARING THE WORD IS THAT ONE THING THAT IS NEEDFUL

Luke 10:38‭-‬42 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. ‬‬‬‬‬‬
39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. 40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

One time Jesus visited two sisters, Mary and Martha. While Martha was busy with kitchen work which is normal for anyone hosting a visitor, Mary did the unusual – she sat at Jesus’ feet hearing His word. When approached by Martha to ask Mary to come help with the chores, Jesus told Martha that, you are cumbered about so many things; but one thing is needful and Mary has chosen that good part and it shall not be taken away from her.

Jesus commended the fellow who sat at His feet hearing His word. God gives priority to hearing His word more than anything else. The reason many are worried about many things, is simply because we don’t do the one thing that is needful. If you will do the one thing that is needful, we will not be worried about the many things.

The one who sits at the feet of Jesus doesn’t seem busy in the eyes of men. To men that is idleness. But sitting at the feet of Jesus and hearing His word is wisdom; and Jesus esteems highly those who sit at His feet to hear His word.

This is one reason why attending church is so important. The most important activity in a church service is the hearing of the word. This is something you don’t have to miss. Don’t even get so busy serving in the house of God and miss the hearing of the word. Stay in the balance. Serve in the house of God. But at the same time make sure that you do not get distracted from hearing the word of God.

Prayer of Salvation
Dear God, I believe that Jesus died and was raised for me. I confess Jesus as the Lord of my life. I receive eternal life into my spirit. I declare that I am born again in Jesus’ name.
