JESUS DESERVES THE BEST OF YOUR SACRIFICE

JESUS DESERVES THE BEST OF YOUR SACRIFICE

Matthew 26:8‭-‬9 But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.‬‬‬

Sometimes when you listen to some people, you wonder about their level of understanding of the things of God. I believe many, including believers, don’t think that Jesus deserves something better from us. To them, just give anything to Jesus and it is fine.

Our opening scripture is about a woman who poured an expensive perfume on Jesus. To this, His disciples exclaimed that this was waste of money. Even Judas suggested that the perfume should have been sold and the money given to the poor.

But apostle John lets us know the true heart of Judas: This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein (John 12:6). Judas was jealous of Jesus. Just moments after he made that ridiculous statement, he was there with the Pharisees negotiating to betray Jesus for money.

I believe some folks including some section of the church want men of God to go in rags as a sign of humility. They don’t have any problem with themselves riding in the nicest cars. But if it is a man of God, then something is wrong. There’s no where in scripture that we are told that going in rags is a sign of humility. When you see the vicious attacks on the church and men of God, you wonder where all of this will end up.

Many are just uncomfortable with men of God who are genuinely prosperous. They can’t stand their prosperity. I believe all of this is as a result of jealousy. Some people still don’t understand why we give our tithes and firstfruit offering to Jesus. These folks will tell you that it is better you give your tithe to the poor than to Jesus. Are they different from Judas?

Many of these people don’t give a rip about the poor. And who told you that you help the poor by giving them money? I am all for alms giving – don’t get me wrong. But giving to the poor is not what will change their lives. It is the gospel of Jesus that changes a man’s life. Thus this is where we should put our money so that we can change the thinking of the poor man and hence change what comes into his pocket.

Child of God, don’t be ashamed to give your tithe, firstfruit offering and other kingdom investments. Just like the woman who broke the alabaster ointment on Jesus, give lavishly to the Lord. And do you know the result? Just like this woman, your giving will become a memorial in the presence of God and men. Hallelujah!

Prayer of Salvation
Dear God, I believe that Jesus died and was raised for me. I confess Jesus as the Lord of my life. I receive eternal life into my spirit. I declare that I am born again in Jesus’ name.
