THE LAW MADE NOTHING PERFECT
THE LAW MADE NOTHING PERFECT

Hebrews 7:19 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
When God brought Israel out of Egypt by an outstretched arm, He led them through the wilderness to the promised land. On their way, when they came to Sinai, God gave them the law of commandments and made a covenant with them.
Exodus 19:7-8 And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the Lord commanded him. And all the people answered together, and said, All that the Lord hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the Lord.
These people boasted about obeying God; it was a boastful assertion: All that the Lord has spoken we will do. Did they really do any of the things that God spoke to them? These folks have been murmurers and complainers all the way. Now here they are saying, all that the Lord has spoken we will do.
At Sinai God made a covenant with Israel which is the covenant of law. It is all about obeying the laws and commandments of God. God Himself knew that the law was not going to work. Just at the foot of the mountain where the law was given, they broke the first commandment: Thou shall have no other gods before me.
In giving them a better covenant, which has been God’s plan from the ages, this is what scripture has to say: For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more (Hebrews 8:10-12).
And the light of this scripture is too hard for some people to grasp. They can’t believe it is in the Bible. Others wish that it was not in the scriptures; but that’s too late for now. We just have to be humble enough to accept what God has said.
