Galatians 4:4-5 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
Scripture calls Jesus the Apostle of our confession. An “apostle” means a “sent one”. And Jesus is the “Sent One” who was sent by God to bring eternal salvation to all men. The scripture above talks about “when the fullness of time was come”. It means that Jesus came at the time that it was right for Him to come. Why was the time of Abraham not the fullness of time? Why was not the time of Moses the fullness of time?
The coming of all these people was necessary to prepare the way for the Messiah to come. Jesus had to be born in an established system. Thus God gave the law and later send the prophets all to prepare Israel to receive their Messiah. Not until all of the required elements and conditions was ready, Christ was not yet born.
Luke 16:16 says, “The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.” If Christ had come another time other than the time that He came, salvation wouldn’t have been possible. God is a God of order. He prepared the system for the Messiah or Christ to be born into.
It was needful for Christ to be born from a tribe; He was to be Jewish by earthly descent. All of these must be ready before He would come into the world. The reason why Christ didn’t come immediately man sinned was that, the condition necessary for His death was not in place.
God sent Jesus into the world to bring us salvation. Jesus came with the grace of God. He is the grace of God in human flesh. He is grace incorporated. God Himself knew that the law would not work; He knew that neither would the preaching of His holy prophets work. The answer to man’s sin and predicament was a sacrifice. And when God sacrificed His Son, the game was over; the war was over.
Victory was won on the cross by Jesus for all humanity for all time. The power of sin, hell and death was broken off man; man was liberated from that which once bound him. Jesus defeated satan and his cohorts and gave us the victory over them. Then he gave us His life and nature. And gave us all of His authority by giving us His name. Hallelujah!
