THE RAIN AND THE WORD

Luke 8:8 And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

The word is likened to a seed. Luke 8:11 says, Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

But for the word of God to work for you, it is going to take the rain of the Spirit. The word without the rain of God will result in dryness and struggles. It is not the word only; neither is it the rain only; but it is the combination of the word and the rain of the Spirit that brings fruitfulness in the life of the child of God.

This is one reason we have to pray a lot before going to minister the word. Our prayer prepares the ground for the word to be sown. And after sowing the word, prayer causes the word to work in the hearts of the hearers.

So those who say, it is just the word; just teach the word and the people will be fine, they should look at the scriptures again. The early church knew this very well. When they came to the crossroad as to what to become their priority, they chose prayer and the ministration of the word.

Acts 6:3‭-‬4 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.‬‬‬‬ And when they did this, what was the result?

Acts 6:7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

If you are a minister of God, you will have to learn to spend a considerable amount of time in prayer on a consistent basis. This gives results to the word as you preach it. Peter who was a man full of the rain of the Spirit, saw his preaching interrupted by the Holy Ghost. While he preached, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. If you desire the word to work for you, learn to pray a lot. Then meditate on the word of God and you will see increasing results.
