1 Corinthians 14:4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
You cannot make real spiritual advancement without the instrumentality of fervent prayer. Anyone can claim to be praying. But until your prayer is producing results, then you will have to check again whether you are truly praying.
The word “edifies” in our opening scripture also means building an edifice. It is an architectural term which refers to building a high rising building. This implies that when you speak in tongues, you build your life like an edifice.
Jude 1:20 says, “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.” This terminology of building like an edifice is used by Jude here in this scripture. The more you pray in the Holy Ghost, the more you are building yourself like a high rising building. As you pray in tongues, you are building your spirit, soul and body. Your spirit man becomes stronger. And at the same time, you build and repair your body.
I am happy to know that I can have my own edifice. Hallelujah! And you don’t need to wait on any pastor or man of God to do this for you. You can actually do this on your own, anytime, and anywhere. In fact, the truth is that, no pastor or man can do this for you; it is your sole responsibility to build your own edifice.
And you can decide how high your edifice should be; there is no limit to your rising. Commit yourself to prayer, especially speaking in tongues. Spend a good amount of time speaking in tongues. If you desire to make real spiritual advancement and progress, make speaking in tongues a priority in your life.
