THE ANOINTING

Psalms 89:20 I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:
The anointing is not a feeling even though it produces one. The anointing is not goosebumps. The anointing is simply the power of God. This is the power that Jesus promised His disciples that they will receive after He is glorified and ascends to heaven. In Bible days, priests, kings and prophets were anointed into their respective offices. It was what set them apart to function effectively in their ministry.
If there was one man in scripture who knew and understood the anointing, it was David the son of Jesse. David so knew the anointing that he knew how to relate to it hence the tremendous results he got. When God rejected king Saul as a result of his disobedience, God sent the Prophet Samuel to Jesse’s house to anoint a king for Himself. Samuel got there and by the Spirit, anointed David in the midst of his brethren.
From that very day, David became a different man; he ceased to be an ordinary person. At the backside of the desert where he took care of his father’s sheep, he killed both a lion and a bear which came after his lamb. What interests me was how he killed the lion and the bear. He said, “I went after them and when they rose up against me, I killed them.” That’s awesome! This is the only instance in all of history that I have heard that a man was chasing a lion. It is the anointing that gave him such boldness and daring.
The anointing is what was largely responsible for the exploits that were wrought by the prophets of old. When they spoke there was power in their words and it came to pass. Samson by the anointing killed a thousand trained men with the jawbone of a donkey. He pulled the gate of Gaza upon his shoulders and dumped it on a mountain. Moses the man of God was able to dare Pharaoh and humiliated all of Egypt through signs and wonders.
One remarkable thing about the anointing is that, it made all of these men of old different from what they used to be. Peter the timid preached to multitudes and 3000 souls were saved. Gideon the fearful was able to lead 300 men to war and defeated the host of Midian. The anointing makes you more than a man. The day you received the Holy Ghost, the anointing came on you permanently. The more you learn about the anointing and it’s operation, the more it works for you. If you will yield to the anointing, you will see great miracles in your life and ministry.
