Isaiah 8:6 Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah's son; 7 Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks.
The subject of rest in Christ is so vital to the body of Christ. The opening scripture teaches us a vital key on how to escape trouble. It talks about two kinds of waters: the water of Shiloah that go softly and the strong and many waters. The former represents the peace and rest of God while the latter represents the enemy’s vices and wickedness. God said to Israel, because they refused the waters of Shiloah, the strong waters of the Assyrians will come upon them – this is trouble.
In the New Testament, because of Jesus, God will not punish us for our sins. But it is sure that if we do not walk in His rest for us, we will surely expose ourselves to trouble. When we walk in the ways of God and follow the guidance of the Spirit we are walking in the rest of God; and this will ensure we escape the ills of this world. This is the reason why the devil tries to get the believer out of line. The moment you get out of line, then he can effect the curse in your life. As long as you are walking in the rest of God, the devil cannot effect the curse.
When we don’t receive and believe the finished work of Christ for our health, then satan can effect the curse of sickness in our lives. I believe that divine health is one area of life the devil has robbed so many believers. The reason is simple: they believe the doctor more than the word, God’s medicine bottle, which is health to all their flesh (Proverbs 4:22).
Start learning to walk in the rest of God. Walking by faith is rest; not worrying is rest. I will venture to say that our world is full of worried individuals. Jesus told us not to worry about what we will eat and wear – our heavenly Father has taken care of those things already. This subject of rest is serious. It is either you are walking in rest or trouble; health or sickness; riches or poverty. There is no neutral ground. Let us heed to the admonishing of Paul: Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief (Hebrews 4:11). To walk in the rest of God, it is going to take laboring in the word. Your labor in the word is what guarantees your rest and hence your prosperity.
