Numbers 5:1 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Command the children of Israel, that they put out of the camp every leper, and every one that hath an issue, and whosoever is defiled by the dead:
In today’s lesson, we will be dealing with the one that has a running issue like the woman with the issue of blood. Just imagine you are in your menstrual cycle and you are told to stay outside the camp. You will be away from family and loved ones; what it implies is that you are cut off from fellowship and the best of God. One having an issue is a picture of self righteousness; those who trust in their good deeds in order to have right standing with God. And their place is living outside God’s best. To live in God’s best, you have to walk by faith in Jesus’ sure work.
Romans 3:27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
No man can be justified by his deeds. Our justification is only founded on the sure and finished work of Christ. Staying away from sin cannot make you righteous before God. Going to church seven days a week does not qualify you for heaven. Taking Holy Communion cannot save you; water baptism cannot save you. Those who boast in their good works end up living the life outside the camp even though they may be born again. They cannot enjoy the full blessing of redemption. Redemption benefit is only enjoyed through faith.
Galatians 3:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
To trust in one’s good deeds is to frustrate and make void the grace of God. All it implies is that, I don’t need Jesus. If you are a lady and you have stayed pure for Jesus till you got married, and you think that qualifies you for a baby, you are a self righteous fellow, and you are sadly mistaken. You are not different from the Pharisee in Jesus’ day. All of God’s blessings are received on the basis of grace through faith. Of course there are countless benefits for right living; but that comes after the cross. Joseph Prince said, “When you believe right, you will live right.”
